slip into these puppies

{all mine mine mine}

Dear Reader,

If you are my friend and expect a Christmas gift from me this year, be prepared to share with me your shoe size because you will be getting monogrammed slippers!

Okay, that is probably a lie, but I am already obsessed with these little beauties and think that everyone should have a pair with their own initials! I got the idea from Martha Stewart’s Encyclopedia of Sewing and Fabric Crafts, but you can read the same page here on marthastewart.com. Instead of hand embroidery, I used my brand new embroidery machine (love) for the monogram. And FYI: I got these Dearfoams slippers for $6 at TJMaxx … but would happily pay $30 minimum for these personalized babies at a boutique. Jealous?

Life Full of Lavender

{little lavender pillows}

I may be selling these on etsy soon. “These,” by the way, are more little lavender pillows (::cough:: “sachets”) that I’ve made over the weekend. It has been so relaxing to embroider linen and piece together cotton for these little rubies. And the lavender scent is basically improving my life: the little pillow hanging near my bed lulls me into a deep sleep; the little pillow in my scarf drawer has successfully eradicated the drawer’s stale smell; and the little pillows I’ve been sewing together just make me happy in general.

{sweet-smelling giveaway}

So. My dried lavender arrived today! Thank you, Flowering Tree Botanicals, for the super quick shipping. I love my goodies, and working with lavender has become my new favorite thing – the whole room smells positively delicious. Now … are you interested in a sachet, alleged reader? I decided that I’m the nicest blogger ever to give you a choice in a giveaway, so I don’t feel guilty in the least about not having finished the other three promised sachet options.

how to win:
{1} Pick your favorite pillow: 1, 2, or 3
{2} Leave a comment with (i) the # of your favorite pillow, and
.      (ii) the name of your favorite cheese
{3} Be sure to include your email address where prompted
{4} Stay tuned

These sweet-smelling pillows measure about 4″ to 5″ by about 4″ to 5″ and are stuffed, but not over stuffed, with lavender. I hand embroidered the linen {front} and used Amy Butler and Kaffe Fassett cotton for the back. Good luck!

WINNERS: tika (#3)! & coco8199(#1)!
I was so excited to draw a name that I accidentally drew two.
Enjoy your lavender sachets, ladies.

And thanks so much to those who stopped in and entered the teeny, tiny giveaway.

Just Add Lavender

{just add lavender}

What can be done to cure stale-smelling drawers and, consequently, stale-smelling scarves? Answer: {hopefully} 1 lavender sachet per drawer.

My French General sewing book has a project for lavender-filled cushions, which inspired me to make my own (though I’ll probably wing the shape and dimensions). If you have a similar need for prettily-scented trinkets, know that you can order a 1-lb. bag of dried lavender buds from Flowering Tree Botanicals on etsy.com. *aside: I also ordered lavender & calendula soothing salve to get the most bang for my shipping bucks … yum!

Until I receive my goodies, I shall embroider many tiny pieces of fabric {above} to encase my fragrant little buds. And I may just be giving one tiny pillow away to one of my alleged readers. Stay tuned (if you really exist, reader).

Softie Puppy

{Softie Puppy}

I’m like a kid in a candy store when I step through the doors of any arts-and-crafts store.  My mind races.  I can’t focus.  I want it all.  Today, I browsed the book section for inspiration, and I couldn’t put down Softies by Therese Laskey.  First thing’s first: what the heck is a softie?  From what I’ve learned this afternoon, they are plush little handmade dolls &c. that are just too adorable for words.  Crafters everywhere have discovered them, and I’m wondering what in the heck took me so long.  I modeled mine after this softie of hers {not gonna lie – I snapped a photo of the page instead of buying the book just yet}.

Second order of business: who was the lucky recipient of my very first softie?  Bob.

Bob’s another father figure to me, and he has this lonely little monkey that his friend’s 7-y/o daughter made.  Every softie should have a softie friend, no?

Come to think of it, I did make my tiny cousin Gavin a plush little handmade doll last year {left}.  Maybe that was a softie, too, and I didn’t even know it?  My favorite part of the owl is the back {not shown} … I gave him buttcheeks.
One day, very far from now, I may have children, or at least my friends will, and this little craft will be handy.  Until then, you probably won’t see me make too many softies.

{02.22.10} I lied. I woke up this morning and knew I’d have to make another softie … It’s not perfection, could definitely be cuter, and only has 2 legs instead of 4, but this is 2-y/o Aiden’s elephant. Happy birthday, little darling!

So Cozy

{Welcome Home, BAM BAM}

And the above photo is evidence that I have not been sitting around, doing nothing for the past few weeks just because I haven’t been blogging like a good little crafty pants. {ahem, ladies}

I’ve just been drinking too much wine to blog every silly little thing I’ve made.

And I’d like to officially request that none of my friends relocate to new homes for at least a good month or so.
{FYI: 3 plies = perfect embroidery floss for monogramming}
